Hose coolants are used for wine must cooling or heating during controlled fermentation in wooden casks or other vessels, which are not equipped with any cooling system.
Hose of the cooling system is inserted into the barrel through the filler hole and connected through hoses to the source of cold or hot water. The water inlet is connected by the ball valve to the threaded cable end and the water outlet to the other threaded cable end of the hose coolant. Water flow and thus the temperature of fermenting musts must be manually regulated by the ball valve. Approximately 9 liters of water are consumed per 1 hectoliter of fermenting must per hour of fermentation. Water warms up by 3°C (e.g. from 12°C/53.6°F to 15°C/59°F). Hose coolants are made for 2 sizes of holes of the barrel: Ø 40 mm/1.5 inch and Ø 50 mm/1.9 inch. During manual regulation of the cooling the must temperature can be measured by the bimetallic thermometer. (Scale diameter Ø 63 mm/2.4 inch, scope 0–60 °C/32-140°F, stem length 400 mm/15.7 inch).
HOSE COOLANTS in the size of HCH40 can be manufactured with silicone lock or fermentation lock.
